Self Funded Residency Opportunity for Visual Artists
in Cape Town, South Africa
From 15 January to 15 December 2011

Good Hope Art Studios in collaboration with Cape Town InternationalResidencies call all self funded visual artists (emerging, mid-career and professional) to apply for a residency at the historical Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, South Africa.
The residency will run at the Good Hope Art Studios at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, in the city centre. The available studio space is located in a large open room, Adam Tas, that can accommodate up to nine artists sharing comfortably. We now also have one private studio available.
Objective
The objective of this residency is to provide visual artists with the opportunity to develop their innate talent outside of their comfort zones and to acquire international standard in their work. This residency will enable artists to learn new skills by exchanging techniques and ideas and interacting with other artists. Simultaneously it will allow for building new friendships, networks and a working holiday.
We will make a list of recommended accommodation in the city available to successful applicants.
All visiting artists are required to take part in outreach programmes and to hold an open studio day or exhibition towards the end of their stay.
Process
During the residency the selected artists will be able to make art, attend exhibitions, visit galleries and other studio spaces within the city. They will also be required to host a public intervention in the form of an outreach to young emerging artists of the city. This outreach will simultaneously serve as part of an audience development exercise.
Who we are
The residency will be hosted by Good Hope Art at Good Hope Art Studios. Good Hope Art is a registered non profit organisation. Good Hope Art’s main objectives are to provide working and exhibition space for emerging artists and artcrafters in order to prepare and empower them in rural and urban areas of Africa for the tourists and art market.
